T he devastating earthquake which hit Pakistan/Kashmir on October 8, 2005 has caused unprecedented damage to life, property and infrastructure. The northern parts of Pakistan have been the most severely affected. To date, approximately 54,000 people have been confirmed dead while about 68,000 are injured and up to 2.5 million have been left homeless. The devastation is beyond comprehension.
There is an urgent need to provide emergency assistance in the form of medical aid, food, medicines and temporary housing to the survivors. The most vulnerable of the survivors are the old, the young, and the injured. They are particularly susceptible to the elements and to the deadly communicable diseases that are now quickly spreading.
We request all of you to urgently assist in the ongoing relief efforts with your generous donations. The affected, especially those in the hardest hit areas, are desperately in need of this international assistance.
